Human Design is a cool framework that you can use to really get to know yourself better. It’s almost as if Enneagram and StrengthsFinder had a baby; that baby would be Human Design. It can be a really amazing tool that you can use in your business. My intention is to start sharing some of the strategies that I’ve been using with my clients, a kind of behind the scenes, in pairing their human design with their business.
“Becoming a leader is synonymous with becoming yourself. It is precisely this simple, and also this difficult.” – Warren Bennis
My Human Design discovery
I am a 3/5 Projector. Projectors are not meant to be working all the time, because they are not energy beings. They are here to guide and lead. They need to wait for the invitation or the recognition to take action. They have a lot of inner-knowing.
3/5 are unique. 3s let life bump into them. They have a lot of experiences that they can share with the world. 5s are like a white knight and people will often project their success onto them for example. They will see a 5 having success, and they’ll project “Oh, well, I can have that too, because that 5 has it.” When they don’t have it, they’ll get frustrated, because it’s just a projection.
When I learned this, I was in this space of exhaustion. I was in a weird transition from my agency into my coaching business. It was a lot and I was really overwhelmed and tired. I felt I was carrying a giant log on my back pushing two things forward and felt so much resistance in my life.
At first, when I learned about my human design, there were many things that I didn’t recognize in me. However, when I slowed down to explore it, I really realized it didn’t sound like me, because there were so many things I had taken on from other people that weren’t necessarily mine. That happens to all of us. At the end of the day, when we can understand ourselves better, we can create a business that we love, and we can really be way more aligned in our business. We can create from a place of certainty or inner-knowing. For myself, I’ve been able to make decisions in my business, from a place where I can actually trust myself and know this is the right decision for me.
Human Design: a framework to build a business you love
I’ve been using human design as a framework to work with clients to better build businesses that they love. We’ve been using it in marketing, in social media, for creating a business model, for interacting with clients, to increase productivity, and for team management.
Human Design is a great tool that you can pull out of your toolkit and ask yourself “Hey, does this make sense for me?” Over the next couple of weeks, you will notice me talking about it more on my podcast, my social media and in my marketing. However, it is not the be-all and end-all solution.
I did a workshop last week where I worked with a projector client and she decided to do a membership and here’s why: She has a great support team in place and can 100% go ahead with it. That’s not necessarily something I would recommend out of the gate for a projector, but she knows herself well, is very secure, and has a great team in place. She knows she wants to be able to show up once a month, give her time to everybody on that day and then pull back again, hibernate and do her own thing.
She knows herself that well that it makes sense.
This is part of how I’m using this framework inside of my Business Ecosystem Builders program and how I’m using it with my private clients.
Human Design is a really cool framework. If you want to find out your human design, you can visit myBodyGraph or other similar websites, where you can put in your information to get your human design. You will learn what your human design is, but it won’t give you more information.
Over the next few weeks, I plan to give you an introduction to Human Design, however, I don’t have any intention or plan to do Human Design readings. My intention is to help people use this framework to better understand how they’re making decisions in their business. There are already tons of people out there that do that very well. If you’d like to get a full reading to better understand yourself, you can reach out to me and I’ll point you in a direction. Check out my podcast interview with Human Design Expert Brigitte Knight.
Human Design Types
There are five types in Human Design. The projector, the manifester, the generator, the manifesting generator, and the reflector.
- Projectors wait for recognition and the invitation
- Manifesters’ strategy is to inform
- Generators respond and know thyself
- Manifesting Generators visualize and inform
- Reflectors wait
Each one of these types has a theme and a profile.
Human Design Profiles
There are 12 profiles and many different combinations such as 3/6, 6/4, 1/3, etc. All these different combinations will give you a look at how you operate and how you interact with the world.
Human Design Definitions
There are five definitions, displaying where you access your energy inside your chart. Inside your chart, you’ll see that there are nine centers, and those nine centers are either highlighted (defined) or not highlighted (not defined). The definition shows how your different centers interact with one another. They will help you understand your definition.
You might have a split definition or no definition or a quad split definition which is really rare. That definition helps you understand how you can access that energy. In other words, how that energy flows through your chart and that’s important in business because it helps you understand how to bridge the gap.
I’m a triple split. I don’t always have constant access to all my defined energy within my chart. So, I need to have people in my life that can help me bridge that definition. Knowing this is very important in business because when you think about building a team, you can build a team based on those areas where you might need some more support and can access that energy on a regular basis.
You might think it’s crazy, but trust me, it works!
Human Design Authorities
There are seven authorities. The authority is how you make your decisions. There are gates, channels, and definitions within your chart.
Human Design Incarnation Cross
The Human Design incarnation cross is your life’s purpose. Who you are, What you are driven to do, your destiny.
Steps to building a business you love and that fits you!
There are many elements to Human Design, but for the purpose of building a business you love, I am only going to stay in the space of
- the types of profiles
- the definition
- the authority
I truly believe that’s really where I can make the biggest impact in helping people in their business and to me, those are really important things in business. For example, if you have an emotional authority, and you’re not waiting a day to make a decision and sleeping on it, then you’re doing yourself a disservice because you won’t be entirely sure that you’re making the right decision.
Understanding that about the people I support and understanding that about clients has been incredibly helpful. Somebody might say yes, at that moment, but then that yes, fades, and it’s not truly a big yes. Now, they’re in this weird position of building this business that they don’t really like. Ultimately, part of the reason we become entrepreneurs is that we don’t want to work for other people. Why would we then want to build a business that we want to burn to the ground? I can’t tell you how many entrepreneurs have told me that their business is running them to the ground. They hate it and are miserable. They wish they could just walk away.
I’m on a mission. I want to help people build a business that they love!
Understanding who you are and how you operate
If you understand how you operate as a human, if you understand how you’re naturally inclined to operate, you will be able to make better decisions in your business. You will know what your strengths and your weaknesses are, and you will be willing to be more vulnerable about them. Because you know yourself, you’re willing to do that uncomfortable work and peel back the layers, in order to say “This is really me or this is not me”.
I’ve spent the last four years on this journey of really getting to know myself a lot better and it’s eye-opening. I am finally settling into who I’ve always known that I’ve been. I’m trusting my gut rather than ignoring it as I had done in the past. Now I’m at the point where I trust myself. Part of that has been uncovering my Human Design profile and understanding that I am designed to trust my gut even if it’s not logical. I am a very organized, strategic, figure-it-out, planning kind of person. But I am also this person who can trust my gut.
I share this with you today because I spent a solid 10 years in my 20s not trusting that inner voice and not trusting that inner-knowing. It wasn’t logical to do. I think when we can have this framework to really rely on and peel back the layers of the things that have been put on you by others, whether it’s parents, teachers, or siblings you can really just make better decisions and make decisions from a more informed place. You can show up in a way that lights you up.
I encourage you to find out your human design profile and let me know, either via email or through social media (Facebook / Instagram) what your profile is. I will happily share any sort of action tip or strategy that I’ve used with a client to better help support them in building their business.
